FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is an amazing and exciting opportunity for kids ages 9-14. However, unlike sports or other after-school programs, we do not have a system by which your child can just sign-up to join a team. Kids participate in FLL by working together, with a coach, to create a team to join the program.
We take privacy seriously, and we will not share contact or other team information with others. FLL is a tremendously popular activity, made possible by the dedication of volunteer coaches who work with existing teams. Be confident that if those teams had space, they would advertise in the local community or on the FLL Team Up website. Most teams struggle to keep within the maximum team allowance because of the great opportunity, and they need to focus their time on the students on their team rather than fielding calls and emails about potential membership.
That being said, there are lots of ways to Get Involved:
- Start a Team: Gather your child and their friends, classmates, scout troop, etc and sign up your own team. Details on the season and cost can be found on the Start a Team link.
- Team Up!: If you don't feel confident about starting a team on your own, consider signing up for FLL's matching service called "Team Up!". Others looking for teams are encouraged to sign up there also. Any teams with available space are asked to register on that site.
- Volunteer: We are always in search of qualified folks (or those willing to be trained) who are enthusiastic about the program and willing to spend time support teams. This can happen by offering mentorship to an existing team, offering presentations as a 'Subject Matter Expert' on that year's theme, or supporting specific events as a judge, referee, or general volunteer!
